A healthier, smarter way to train
TRAIN WITH VIRTUAL RUNNING COACH AND PHYSICAL THERAPIST
Lauren Riccardi, PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS
My professional experience as a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy and unique approach will provide the traction necessary for athletes to hit the ground running. I personally create specific catered weekly programs for each client to help them achieve their individual athletic goals. I push but I also motivate. Early on, I identify what each client is capable of with my goal being to help them reach, then exceed, that potential. I go a step further than every other online running coach by utilizing my knowledge gained as a physical therapist to not only re-hab injured runners but to create exercises to prevent future injuries.
Train for Success
TRAINING PLANS
Running & Cross Training
I work with every runner to create a plan that both fits around their busy lives and will get them in the best shape for the best chance to be successful. Once a week I will send you a detailed plan for the upcoming week complete with details on each workout. I ask only that you email me once at the end of each week to let me know how the days went. I adjust and progress the following week accordingly, based off how you respond to the workouts. I utilize my CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialty) to not only tell you what to do for you runs but I give specific details on your cross-training days instead of just writing "Wednesday- Cross train". I understand that, as runners, most of you don't know what a true cross training day should be and that's where I take it one step further than every other online training plan I've come across, whether you're training to set a new PR in a marathon or run your first 5K.
PHYSICAL THERAPY
Injury rehab and prehab
Nearly 85% of all runners have had some sort of injury in the past year that sidelines them for at least a week. I encourage all of my clients to keep me in the loop regarding any aches and pains as early as possible. The sooner I'm aware of an injury, the sooner we can work together to both adjust your training plan and educate you on the most appropriate ways to recover as fast as possible. Not all injuries can be assessed thoroughly online, however the fast we take care of small aches and pains, the greater the chance we can prevent them from becoming real injuries that keep you from running altogether.
A BIT ABOUT ME
My Experience, My Passion
While studying to get my degree in physical therapy I decided to train for my first marathon. I looked up various plans online, selected one at random, followed it exactly as described, and finished the race. Not as fast as I may have wanted but I enjoyed it and caught the bug. I signed up for another one and again followed a marathon training program I found online. The only difference was that I never ran that race because halfway through training I got a stress fracture and had to defer. A few years later I helped convince my brother-in-law to run the Philadelphia Marathon with me. We trained together and raced together. I was happy to finish the race healthy but wanted to qualify for Boston and knew that in order to shave off the required 25 minutes from my time, I had a lot of work to do. I signed up for Chicago and decided to do things differently. By this point I was a licensed physical therapist, working in NYC, and decided to do it on my own by creating my own plan. The day came and despite a brutally hot day, I did it. I improved enough to qualify for Boston on my own plan, and more importantly did so without getting injured. I knew then that I could help other injured runners reach their goals faster and made it my goal to help as many runners as I can.
